We at Thrymheim Icelandics are a close family, all sharing a love for all types of creatures. We are particularly fond of the animals from Iceland. Besides my husband Mark and I, the pack includes 19 year old Dylan, 17 year old Julia, and 7 year old Connor, and I should mention the herd of extra teenagers that is here on the farm all the time. We have all types of animals including parrots that mimic the sounds of ALL of our animals. You never know if it is a real rooster, a real tree frog, a puppy barking or Merlin, our resident Macaw. Dylan is fond of exotic animals, and is currently attending Michigan State University working toward a Zoology major. Dylan has done a fair amount of traveling, even spending 5 weeks in Australia on his own last year. Julia shares my love for Iceland. We both agree that Iceland is a magical place, full of magical people, and always leaving us with magical memories. Connor will be traveling with us to Iceland next summer, he is looking forward to exploring the land of elves and trolls.
The beautiful photo above was taken in July in Iceland, the land of the midnight sun! Julia, the 17 year old member of our pack took this photo. Julia has fallen in love not only with Iceland but with their horses, and their wonderful people.
The photo was taken at Midengi, at my dear friend Helga's farm. "Midengi " is a "clan" all of their own, (of which I though Julia might never be allowed to leave), we have been told we are officially "clan" members. Helga and her beautiful family, as well as her wonderful friends have opened their arms to us. Helga Gustavsdottir runs Kersins Kennel www.kersins.is , and the name Midengi www.midengi.is is attached to their Icelandic Horse operation.
At Midengi, life is savored, life is always a party, the meaning of life IS good friends and tight families. They have a great love for their work, and are very dedicated to their animals and they always, always live life to it's fullest.
I have so many people to credit and pictures to share, and I will be working on this. I would like to turn this into a blog of sorts. To share my great love for Gudny Halla from Bulandi, the only organic dairy farmer in Iceland. Gudny is involved with Icelandic Sheepdogs and Icelandic Horses. Then there is Jon and Christine, and their lovely daughters Anna & Hrefna, the wonderful breeder of my Muninn from Fagrahvamms Kennel. Jon and Chrisitne show me the nightlife side of Iceland. Jon is an accomplished guitarists and the three of us, along with their friends have had many a fun night out!
I also have also made a dear friend out of Ransy from Asgardi. Ransy has such lovely horses and sheep. We also have had so many in depth talks about the future of the Icelandic Horse and Sheep. Ransy is where I aquired my beautiful Vaenting. Vaenting has been confirmed to be in foal for a summer 2010 delivery.
And of course, I can't forget about my dear , dear friend Steini, who has shared so much of his country with me, and has opened so many doors, which has allowed me to make so many friends. Iceland has truly become my second home.
I also would like to express my gratitude to everyone at Southram for their hospitality, this is to include Halla's respected advise on horse breeding, and Mundi for his non-stop humor. My regards to Thora, Steini's past assistant, for we are women of like mind, and she can also made some awesome homemade brew.
All of this barely touches all that I have to say about Iceland and it's people, I just have to save it for when I have the time to really give it what it deserves.
